Changing seasons bring with them scented wants and desires that vary as we move from one to the next. Winter is traditionally ambers and spiced citruses, spring demands the first hint of glorious greens, summer radiates solar florals, and autumn relaxes into comforting woods. However, where two seasons join is the exciting period because there’s an overlap that produces incredible choices and exciting variations. We’re now centrally in spring but, with summer on the horizon, the scent of green aquatic florals is the perfect fit. That means it’s the perfect time to discover the new Dancing Light candle from Told London.
The founders of Told London, Christopher and Lillie Edgar, launched the company on 17th March 2025 with a debut collection of five scents - City Grandeur, Glorious Gardens, Highland Retreat, Island Breeze and Night Blooms. With a lifelong love of travel, each was inspired by locations that were important to them. This meant the original quintet saw stops in Scotland, London, India, the gardens of England, and the Seychelles. With each scent available in both a candle and a diffuser, and also with wonderful illustrations by UK artist Kerry Lemon on the jars, it’s easy to understand why Told London have made such an impression.
As I mentioned before, this period towards the end of spring starts to bring with it the excitement of summer. Whether that’s thoughts of travel, spending a day on the beach, or relaxing by a lake, it’s natural to want to start longing for different scents as memories of previous years start flooding back. Bringing these scents into the home, especially when the weather isn’t quite behaving itself, is a great way to start mentally planning for the months ahead and even finalising those sun-drenched plans. So, where does Told London’s new Dancing Light candle come into this?
The fragrance is inspired by the light that radiates off the famous Lake Como, which is where founders Christopher and Lillie live. They wanted to capture the luminosity of the lake and the surrounding air, rather than it simply be a “picture postcard” of the region. This description by Lillie has been expertly realised by Nic and Ruth Mastenbroek, who themselves are no strangers to the world of award-winning perfume brands. So, the combination of the watery qualities with uplifting green florals makes this candle the perfect transition from spring into summer, and beyond. It’s time to bring a little Lake Como magic into your home.
Dancing Light opens immediately with a beautiful fig leaf and aquatic pairing, so you get an evocatively green touch that instantly references the spring notes that surround us at the moment. However, it’s the gloriously radiant lily of the valley and wisteria in the heart of the candle that truly capture you. Their watery notes, along with their vibrancy, give a crystal clear brightness that helps to conjure that promised image of dancing light across Lake Como. As the candle warms it also releases a dry cedarwood and smooth sandalwood, resulting in a feeling of timeless and refined elegance. Dancing Light is the perfect candle for settling down with a good book and something sparkling.
The Dancing Light candle is available from the Told London website at toldlondon.com priced at £70 for 300g, and it is currently on a special price of £50. [Sample provided by Told London]
