RestN by Paul Keating

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
There can’t be anyone that hasn’t heard that expression, and the past year and half has tested it to the extreme. Changes in circumstances have forced companies and individuals to adapt like never before. When the usual way of earning a living suddenly disappeared, it quickly became apparent that there would be little help. The theatre industry was severely hit, with shows cancelled and closed, but one actor had the idea to turn the uncertainty into some much needed relaxation. Paul Keating launched RestN, and he is tipped for some seriously scented success.

When theatres closed in 2021 it very quickly became apparent that a large number of actors would end up falling between the cracks of any financial aid. This forgotten group had very few options, and so many were inspired to get creative. The world was stressed up to its eyeballs, with many countries still governed by various lockdown measures, and people were crying out for a way to relax and switch off. Paul Keating saw this and wondered whether there was a way he could help, and begin earning a wage. The result was the cleverly titled RestN.

Paul Keating is probably best known for originating the title role in the 1996 production of Tommy, which earned him an Oliver Award Nomination. Never far from London’s West End, and with an equally impressive list of television credits, Paul was one of the performers that didn’t qualify for any significant help during the pandemic. However, in the past when he wasn't acting, he'd worked for Jo Malone London. This had made him realise the power of fragrance and just how it could help. So, he decided to try and offer his own brand of scented support.

RestN comprises a Hand Cleanser, Hand Balm and a Pillow Spray. While all of the products are well worth trying, the latter two really are something special. The Hand Balm comes in two fragrances, although I was instantly drawn to Paul’s Orange, Rosemary & Grapefruit. The cream itself leaves the hands feeling fantastically smooth and, surprisingly for a handmade product, not in the slightest bit greasy. The scent has a wonderfully citrus aroma but, because of the pairing of rosemary and lemongrass, you also get an exciting aromatic touch to the fragrance. Packaged in a 120ml glass jar, this is a must for your Christmas gifting.

This brings us on to the Lavender, Frankincense & Ylang Ylang Pillow Spray. Now, nearly every company does a pillow spray, but it’s Paul’s combination of natural ingredients that makes the one from RestN an unqualified hit. The spray has the usual lavender but, unusually, it also includes a touch of frankincense. This provides a delicately resinous edge to the scent which, alongside a hint of rose geranium and ylang ylang, provides a beautiful scent that is sure to make you want to settle back and relax. The spray may come in a simple amber glass bottle, but its contents are guaranteed to impress.

All products are available from the RestN website at restn.co.uk both singularly and in sets. The Hand Balm is £13 for 120ml while the Pillow Spray is £8 for 50ml, £13 for 100ml and £20 for 200ml. [Samples provided by Paul Keating]
