STEPHAN'S SIX - SARAH MOYLE

Since leaving Middlesex University Sarah Moyle's acting career has taken her in many different directions. A successful list of theatre credits runs alongside her many television appearances, including Born And Bred, Emmerdale and WPC 56, but it was her regular role as Kimberley in Ricky Gervais' Extras 2 that brought her to most people's attention. Sarah is now permanently to be found in the fictional town of Letherbridge playing the eccentric Valerie in the BBC soap Doctors. In a break from filming I took the chance to find out her perfume memories for "Stephan's Six".

What is the first smell that you can remember?
Oh this would definitely have to be Play-Doh! It is such a distinctive and unusual smell that it really sticks in my mind. Who doesn’t love Play-Doh? The memory of it makes me feel so happy. [The scent of Play-Doh is actually available as one of the Library of Fragrance range]

What perfume do you remember your mum or dad wearing?
I always remember my Mum wearing Charlie, but Dad flicked between Brut 33 and Old Spice. The smell of Old Spice still makes me think of long Sunday afternoons hanging out with my Dad whilst he watched the rugby and smoked cigars!

What was the perfume of your twenties?
Rive Gauche, straight away, and without question. I thought I was so very sophisticated, so wonderfully grown-up, but when I smell it now I find it sickly.

What was your biggest perfume mistake?
When I was sixteen I went on a school skiing trip and fell for a boy from another school, because he was wearing Lacoste aftershave! When I see photos of that boy now I can’t believe it! What was I thinking!? [I think that we've all made mistakes because we liked someone's perfume, but I always burnt the photos!]

You can only choose one perfume?
This would have to be DKNY Be Delicious because it reminds me of six of the best months of my life. I was doing the play Jerusalem on Broadway and it was a very special time for me.

What perfume should I try?
I think that Jo Malone's Lime Basil & Mandarin cologne is well worth a try, but I'm not telling you what Valerie wears.

Doctors is on BBC ONE every weekday at 1:45pm and, with Sarah's character of Valerie showing no signs of becoming a shrinking violet, we can expect plenty more mayhem.

  1. Oh YSL Rive Gauche! I miss the original version of this so badly. I get my fix now from Amouage Gold Woman, and believe it or not, Bond No9 Madison Soiree....

    1. Rive Gauche had such a following in its original form, but great news that you found your modern equivalent.

  2. My husband used to wear Brut as a very young man. It's definitely an evocative smell of its era. I still wear Rive Gauche round the house on occasion - day before yesterday in fact! One of my numerous 'like' perfumes that never quite hits 'love.'

    1. Brut has turned up so many times in "Stephan's Six" and, used sparingly, is a fantastic scent
